COURSE TITLE

 

Design of Simple Reinforced Concrete and Steel Bridges

PURPOSE

 

 

 

The purpose of the course is to equip engineers from DoLIDAR and LRBSU with skills and knowledge required to build/improve design capacity. This training aims to widen the knowledge on design of simple reinforced concrete and steel bridges. It will help them to verify the design works of bridges confidently.

 

DURATION

Design of simple reinforced concrete and steel bridges (Part I) - 14 days

Design of simple reinforced concrete and steel bridges (Part II) - 7 days

 

TARGET GROUP

 

Engineers of DoLIDAR and LRBSU with having at least Bachelor in Civil Engineering.

TRAINING STRUCTURE

Training will be organized into two parts. First part of training covers design of simple concrete bridges and second part covers design of simple steel bridges.

First part of training deals with the design methods, design code, bridge loadings, geotechnical and hydraulic design, bearing design and design of substructure of simple bridges, while second part deals with the design of superstructure and bearing of simple steel bridges

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

At the end of training the participants will be able to do the following:

·           Design superstructure or verify design of superstructure of Reinforced concrete Slab Bridge

·           Design superstructure or verify design of superstructure of Reinforced concrete T-beam Bridge

·           Design superstructure or verify design of superstructure of Steel Composite Bridge

·           Design superstructure or verify design of superstructure  of Steel Truss Bridge

·           Perform/verify hydraulic and geotechnical design of simple bridges

·           Design/verify design of elastomeric and metallic bearing of simple bridges

·           Design/verify design of pier and abutment of simple bridges

·           Design/verify design of foundation of simple bridges

 


METHODOLOGY

 

 

 

EVALUATION

During this course wide variety of methods will be used. Whenever possible group and/or individual practice will be utilized for application of the knowledge/skills. Principle of adult learning will guide the overall process.

 

Performance of the participants will be evaluated through continuous assessment at the time of group or individual exercise
